BMFA Centenary Record Attempt

In 2022, to mark the BMFA Centenary, we will be attempting to set a new record. This will be a mass participation model flying record attempt for clubs and individual members which is to be set at your own flying site and recorded locally.

Oxford MFC were 1 of almost 200 clubs that have registered to take part.

The WR is for the most number of model aircraft in the air at 12:00 noon on Sunday 15th May 2022.

The official count is now in

We are pleased to report after checking the submitted results from each of the clubs participating that we had a total of 3109 models in the air at 12 noon and that 263 BMFA affiliated clubs took part. We have therefore achieved a new BMFA National absolute record. We will be submitting a dossier to the FAI for the issue of the Diploma to acknowledge the achievement and, when successfully issued, apply for a World Record.

16 brave souls ventured out on to the Meadow for the record attempt . The forecast strong winds didn’t happen, in fact there was very little wind but the rain made up for that, a light drizzle turned heavier the nearer it got to 12:00pm and it was a fairly bedraggled group that left the Meadow with wet models to dry off.

All 16 made the launch and were flying at the stroke of 12:00, 13 of these were free flight  and 3 flew RC at the patch. It seems that the free flighters must be more immune to the weather.

Of the RC Fliers 2/3 were juniors

Congratulations all those that took part
