Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without elves so why not celebrate this Christmas by flying your Keil Kraft Elf in the OMFC Christmas Elf Postal. You haven’t got an Elf you say? well there’s plenty of time to build one if you fancy having some festive fun
The competition is for the highest total of three flights. You are allowed unlimited attempts with an attempt being any flight under 10 sec. The flights should all be done on the same day and can be flown indoors or outdoors. Indoor flyers can take advantage of a 10 sec bonus for ROG while outdoor flyers can take their luck with any thermals they can seek out.
There will also be a prize for the most Christmassy Elf
Full Rules can be downloaded here

The competition is also open to flyers at Trinity and Berinsfield (OFMAC) and has been timed to include the December and January meetings at both venues . There is also the OMFC’s own indoor evening (Dates TBC) as well as of course Port Meadow or your local flying site
The 16″ Keil Kraft Elf was designed in 1951 by Bill Dean and was conceived as a reduced size version of the popular KK Ace. It’s a simple straightforward build with a number of ways to get your Elf
It is available as a kit from VMC https://www.vintagemodelcompany.com/16-kk-elf
Alternatively the original kit plan is available as a free download on OuterZone along with an excellent CAD reworking by Lurk, which is highly recommended and irons out any issues with original kit design

For those not using the kit a 5″ or 6″ Peck pattern prop works well. For ROG you would need to trim a 6″ to 5.5″ . As a guide a good starting point indoors is a 16″ loop of 0.090″ and outdoors on a 16″ loop of 1/8″ (.125″). To turn indoors they a lot of rudder, mine has the rudder aligned with the right hand fuselage stringer giving lots of left rudder and has a flat turn to left aided by a small Gurney strip on the inboard wing to help keep the wing up
